Quenichet’s early life was spent in Texas.  She received a BA in Art and a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas.  She has worked as an occupational therapist, a professional potter, an art teacher, and an artist and printmaker.  After graduating from college, she spent 25 years in Prescott, AZ, before moving to Charlottesville, VA in 2018.  In 2021, she was juried into the McGuffey Art Center as an Associate Member and participates frequently in life drawing sessions there and at Bronze Craft Foundry in Waynesboro. Her prints, paintings, and drawings are frequently on exhibit at McGuffey Art Center.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I have been drawn to the natural world since I was a child growing up in rural Texas, and it continues to be the inspiration for my artwork. Outdoor activities such as gardening, hiking, kayaking, and birding have nourished my artistic pursuits over the years.  The contrasting Arizona and Virginia landscapes where I’ve lived have provided interesting and varied subject matter for my paintings and prints.   During the past decade, seed pods I’ve collected while hiking have served as imagery and metaphor for my monoprints, relief prints, etchings, and paintings.

In 2016 I began using the Procreate drawing app on my iPad in order to design relief prints.  I later found the app to be useful during drawing and plein air sessions and have appreciated the flexibility that digital media has offered.   Specifically, my digitally created life drawings have evolved into stylistically unique narratives that can be printed on archival papers for exhibiting.

I continue to enjoy creating artwork using a variety of media, including watercolor, gouache, oil, woodcut, linocut, and digital.
